Community Midwives

There is a community midwife based at Carden Medical Centre. As soon as your pregnancy is confirmed she will provide you with all the care and information you require to have a happy, healthy pregnancy. During your pregnancy she arranges informal Parenthood Educational where mums and dads come together to share knowledge and experiences - these sessions will be held at Carden and include patients of nearby practices.

The midwife’s antenatal and booking clinic is held on a Thursday morning. She will visit you in your home following the birth of your baby until the baby is ten days old.

Community Nurses

District nurses are qualified nurses who care for patients in their own homes, as well as in health centres and GPs surgeries. They have had extra training to enable them to advise patients on nursing problems.

The district nurse will teach patients about self care and will show carers how to cope in their absence. Their duties range from dressings, injections etc. to care of the terminally ill.

District nurses based in Carden also liaise with the Direct Delivery teams who then visit housebound people who need nursing care.

The District Nurses can be contacted on 01224 846680, Monday-Friday 8.00am-4.00pm. They will check their answerphone early morning and in the afternoon - as the nurses are usually out visiting during the morning.
