Information from NHS - Why are GP Practices still working differently?

The Pandemic is over! It is not over yet and the modelling suggests there is a 3rd wave on its way. We must protect Primary Care Teams and vulnerable patients by keeping face to face contact to a minimum.

How are practices working now? All appointments are being triaged - this means that people with the greatest need are being seen first.

What is Triage? Our clinicians will assess every eConsult and phone query and decide who needs to be seen in person, who needs a phone consultation, who needs to be seen via video and who can be directed to a community pharmacist etc.

How do we triage? Our clinicians look at all the information available and make an assessment loosely based on:

'Hear it' - phone consult,

See it' - video consult (Near Me)

Feel it' - face to face appointment.

Why do receptionists ask personal questions? Put simply, because they have been asked to! Anyone that is tasked with answering a call at a GP practice must maintain strict confidence and only ask questions to help you get the right treatment.

eConsult? Consult is an online way of contacting your doctor to get help and support. There is lots of information that you can use to help yourself too. Find out more by watching this video:

What about emergencies? If it is a genuine medical emergency then you should call 999 and ask for an ambulance. If you need emergency care but are not in imminent danger then you should call 111

Where else can I get help? NHS Inform has a wealth of information to help you help yourself: Community Pharmacists (chemists) can help with many common ailments and illnesses and can prescribe some medicines too. We have more information on this in our Self Help section (link below)

Please be patient and always treat staff with respect. Primary Care Teams have been working incredibly hard throughout the Pandemic. Many of our teams are exhausted and they really are doing their best to help you. We, just like you, want to get back to as close as normal as possible as soon as possible, but we are not there yet.

Prescription Collection

All prescriptions should be collected from a pharmacy - just le us know which pharmacy you would like your prescriptions to be sent to, and we will take care of the rest

COVID Vaccinations

A Grampian Covid 19 vaccination website giving vaccination information and updates on when each group is being called is available by clicking here.  A general helpline is also available from 8am until 8pm every day on 0800 030 8013

Proof of Vaccination - those travelling within the next 21 days who need proof of vaccination should visit to access their vaccination record online. Alternatively, you can request the record of your vaccination be posted to you by calling the COVID Status Helpline on 0808 196 8565

Self Treatment (including self referral forms for Physio and Podiatry)

Not all conditions need a visit to your GP, please click on our Self Treatment Link for information about many common minor ailments. Your local pharmacy can also help with many minor heath concerns without the need to visit your GP - we have listed these in our self help link. The Minor Ailments Service allows pharmacies to provide medicines for listed minor ailments free of charge.

Urinary Tract Infections (UTI) - our self treatment link includes a flowchart which you can check to see when you should be visiting your pharmacy rather than GP for a Urinary Tract Infection.

Benzodiazapines (such as Diazepam) for Flying

We are no longer able to prescribe benzodiazapines for flying - for more information on this, click here

On Line Services

We have currently suspended booking of appointments on line - this allows us to check the reason for your appointment and deal with this by phone if appropriate to prevent patients visiting the practice if this is not needed (see coronavirus above)

Prescriptions can still be ordered using this service - please ensure that you advise us which pharmacy you would like to pick up your prescriptions from as these cannot currently be collected from the practice.
