Coronavirus -

Due to the situation with Coronavirus/COVID 19, we have changed how we work. To keep our patients and staff as safe as possible, we have cutting down the number of people coming into the surgery however, we are very much still here to help you and you should continue to contact us if you have any medical symptoms or issues that are not related to Coronavirus. We can deal with these requests in a variety of ways which keep everyone safe - by providing telephone advice, by holding video consultations when these are helpful or, as needed, by arranging for you to come for a face to face appointment - as usual, we will ask for more details of the issue and a doctor will assess how best we help before we come back to you to do that.

If you have been given a time or day for a video consultation, you can access your appointment by clicking on the secure link https://nhsattend.vc/nhsg/CardenMC using any device with a microphone and camera (smartphone, tablet, ipad, laptop, PC). You can use this link to test that this is working for you before the time of your appointment. If you have not been given a video appointment by the practice, your call will not be answered.

For further information on video consultations please click here.

If you have developed Coronavirus/COVID 19 symptoms in the past 7 days (new continuous cough and/or a fever) or live with someone who has symptoms please follow the guidance on www.nhsinform.scot/coronavirus where there is an interactive guide you can use.

There are many helpful resources you can use -

Assessment of whether you can keep working is your employers responsibility (and cannot be done by your GP) - they should be directed to Health Protection Scotland for further information by clicking here

Those at highest risk of a severe illness if they catch Coronavirus (COVID 19) have been sent a letter by the Chief Medical Officer of Scotland to let them know the measures they should take to stay away from others and avoid all face to face contact for at least twelve weeks. A copy of this letter can be accessed by clicking here.

If you feel that you need to speak to a doctor about your COVID-19 symptoms - please call NHS24 on 111. The team will ask questions and pass this information to a doctor who can decide whether your symptoms can be dealt with by phone call or if you need to be seen. If you need to be seen, this will be organised safely.

If you need to see or speak to a doctor about medical symptoms or issues other than Coronavirus/COVID-19, please call us directly. We will deal with as much as possible over the phone as this will help reduce the spread of the virus to those with additional health issues - it also reduces the chance of our doctors and nurses coming into contact with the virus and keeps them working to look after you. We can also offer video consultations where these are needed.

Please use one of the pharmacy collection services if you need prescriptions, you will not be able to collect prescriptions from the practice

For those who have received a prescription for Sayana Press Contraceptive Injection to self administer - you can access the guide to self-injection by clicking here

We would like to thank all our patients for their understanding and help with keeping us all as safe as possible and allowing us to continue looking after your health at this difficult time.

Change in Practice Ownership

Our practice transferred over to be owned and run by Aberdeen City Health and Social Care Partnership (ACHSCP) with the staff being directly employed by NHS as from 5 May 2020. We had intended holding patient drop in sessions at Carden to update patients and answer any questions you may have but, due to the coronavirus situation, these will not now go ahead until a later date.

In the meantime, if you have any concerns or questions about this transfer, please contact our Practice Manager, Shona Alexander, to discuss.

We would reassure you that the service from the practice will remain the same throughout.

Self Treatment and Local Pharmacy (including when to see your local pharmacy for a UTI)

Not all conditions need a visit to your GP, please click on our Self Treatment Link for information about many common minor ailments. Pharmacist are experts in medicine and your local pharmacy can also help with many minor heath concerns without the need to visit your GP.

Urinary Tract Infections (UTI) - use the flowchart provided in the link below to check when you should be visiting your pharmacy rather than GP for a UTI/suspected UTI.

Keeping Antibiotics Working Campaign

The campaign reminds us that a course of antibiotics is not required to treat common winter illnesses such as viral coughs, colds and flu. The video below will direct you to the Know Who To TurnTo website where you have options to select different services. Under Self Help and Pharmacist there is a link to "Coughs, Colds and More" which has brief information about self care, links to NHS Grampian Self Help Guides and the NHSInform and Antibiotic Guardian website.

On Line Services -

We have currently suspended booking of appointments on line - this allows us to check the reason for your appointment and deal with this by phone if appropriate to prevent patients visiting the practice if this is not needed (see coronavirus above)

Prescriptions can still be ordered using this service - please ensure that you advise us which pharmacy you would like to pick up your prescriptions from as these cannot currently be collected from the practice.
